Window 3 Opens Quietly on the 24th — 'the Sentinel' Keeps Its Distance

Stable Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh' (Lineage 88), in the Inagi valley of West Tama, opened for about 70 minutes on the afternoon of the 24th. Six days after the previously reported incident on the night of the 18th, when the individual known as 'the Sentinel' (official number 88-C) approached closer to the boundary glass than ever before, its body briefly turning colorless and then flickering, the individual was again observed today but kept its usual distance from the glass. The Dimensional Survey Division described it as 'a quiet observation' and reaffirmed its stance of waiting for November's outside expert panel.

Stable Window 3, "the Slime Marsh," opened at 1:52 p.m. on the 24th and closed roughly 70 minutes later, around 3 p.m. It marked the first notable activity since the previously reported opening on the night of the 18th, when the individual known as "the Sentinel" approached and its color briefly went colorless, then flickered. This time, several individuals, the Sentinel among them, were observed beyond the window, but none approached the glass. The window keeper's log read: "Today, the usual distance. It may be that the day it came close was the exception, not the rule."

"It would be premature to conclude that something changed after the 18th's approach," a Dimensional Survey Division official said on the 24th. "Openings like today's, holding the usual distance, have actually made up the majority of our observations so far." As previously reported, the color change immediately after the 18th's approach was officially described, cautiously, as reaching "just short of the glass," with the Division maintaining its position that it offers no proof of "being watched." Today's quiet opening is being treated as evidence that reinforces, rather than undercuts, that position.

The Sentinel's color changes themselves were observed several times during today's opening. According to the window keeper, the shifts in hue again tracked weakly with the observation room's lighting and movement, as previously reported from the Sept. 12 correlation finding, but the range of change fell well short of the 18th's colorless episode, staying within "the usual range." The Division says it will keep adding today's record to the data it is compiling for November's outside expert panel.

As previously reported, the Seventh International Joint Research Project, co-chaired by Hinokuni and Hind, has already added the Sentinel's approach observations to its shared materials, with some informally calling it "impossible to ignore when weighing the possibility of communication." Today's quiet opening is also expected to be shared with the secretariat, but the Division again stressed a cautious approach: "We've asked them to weigh the record of a day with no movement just as heavily as a day with a dramatic one."

Windows 1 ("the Lit City") and 4 ("the Giant Plains") stayed closed all day on the 24th; Window 2 ("the Sea of Mechanisms") remained closed since the previously reported opening before dawn on the 23rd, when the two towers were heard "calling" to each other; and Window 5 ("the Sword Country") showed no activity either. "A day when only Window 3 moves, out of the five, isn't especially rare," the Division said.

When this reporter wrote about the 18th's approach, there was, honestly, a sense that something might be starting to move. Watching the Sentinel drift today at its usual distance made that sense feel, in hindsight, a little premature. In a beat built on writing what we don't know as plainly as what we do, this reporter is trying to remember that "nothing changed" is its own kind of finding.

The timing of the next opening remains unpredictable. This paper will continue reporting as the Dimensional Survey Division issues updates.

Window 3's 'Slime Marsh': 'the Watcher' Touches the Glass for the First Time — For a Moment, Its Color Vanished

At Stable Window 3, 'the Slime Marsh' (Lineage 88), in the Inagi valley of West Tama, an individual known to window keepers as 'the Watcher' — which has repeatedly appeared before the window — was observed late on the 18th approaching close enough to touch the boundary glass directly for the first time since the window came into service. At the moment of contact, its color faded to near-colorlessness for several seconds before flickering rapidly. The Dimensional Survey Division maintains this is no proof the creature is 'looking back,' but says the observation is without precedent in its records.

Window 5's 'Sword Country' Opens for 42 Minutes — A Second Window Drift Object, a Tasseled Cord

Stable Window 5, 'the Sword Country' (Lineage 52), behind the Third Appraisal Center in Kameido, opened for 42 minutes from 1:18 a.m. on the 21st, again showing a bustling market and a procession along the city wall. In the post-closure inspection, a second window drift object was recovered — a tasseled woven cord — following the previously reported metal buckle. Some in the procession again carried the tally tags resembling Lineage 7's 'the Lit City,' but as before, the relationship between the two lineages remains an open question for the division to study.
